Emelyn Morley meets Mr. Loganbrek
In her mind’s eye, Geoffrey George Loganbrek had become a reliable subject for caricature, only increased by his sister’s Herculean attempts to obfuscate the matter of his eccentric nature and appearance—praising the dashing masculinity of his laugh, or the stately poise of his buttons. Emelyn had rather hoped her estimation would improve by encounter with the man himself, but the sight of him standing between the fountains, bouncing on his toes and rubbing his watch chain dispelled any such illusions. Of ponderous raindrop figure, with green frock coat over the straining bulge of his gilded amidships, Mr. Loganbrek stood in rounded trousers with polished buckles on his shoes, his fist high on his side. His countenance was knobby and round, shining between the mane of his full bottomed wig with bacon-faced glee.
